Ivory Park Police trace and re-arrest wanted rape suspect

“This is the second rape suspect to have been traced by the team. The other one was arrested last week in Soweto for a 2011 rape case,”said Ngcobo.

Ivory Park SAPS station commander has commended officers for successfully tracing a rape suspect and bringing him to Ivory Park to account for charges against him.

According to Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo the suspect was arrested in Vereeniging, where he was appearing in court on another charge, on February 14.

The 33-year-old was arrested in 2019.

The suspect was granted bail and he absconded.

“Detectives tasked with looking for wanted suspects were alerted to this man’s whereabouts after he was arrested in Boipatong for impersonating a police officer.

“This is the second rape suspect to have been traced by the team. The other one was arrested a week prior in Soweto for a 2011 rape case,” said Ngcobo.

The suspect is set to appear at the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court to continue where he left off in 2019.

“These arrests were made possible by the effective use of in-house technology, bringing to book people who had long forgotten about their transgressions. We will continue to hunt and bring to book all of our wanted suspects,” said Ngcobo.
