Local foundation spreads love to the community

They hope to mount these boards during this month as they continue taking orders from couples in Thembisa and surrounding areas.

With February being a widely celebrated month of love because of Valentine’s Day, Motha ka Mtshali saw the need to start a charity project to spread love across the township of Thembisa.

He said instead of making the day about romance and sweethearts; they saw the month as an opportunity to make it more meaningful by encouraging communal connections, fostering relationships with family, and friends, caring for others in your life and instilling proper family values with love as a foundation.

He said this was the first time they hosted the project and their goal is to erect 200 boards on street poles on all the main and exit roads in Thembisa.

Motha ka Mtshali, chairperson of the organisation, said the purpose of this charity project was to spread the messages of love, care and sacrifice in a township riddled with crime, drug addiction, and teenage pregnancy.

“We believe a society is an extension of the family unit. Many of the societal issues we are currently experiencing in Thembisa are a result of a dysfunctional family environment most children are reared in,” said Mtshali.

“We believe through these messages of love, we would make a difference by motivating an estranged father to be more present in his children’s lives; inspire couples to be more appreciative of each other’s sacrifices, encourage children to listen to their parents and parents to be more understanding and less judgmental.”

Mtshali explained that currently, from the money raised by couples, they have purchased and placed 54 boards. They need another 146 boards to make this project a success.

“It was couples mainly who have been funding this movement. However, we would like to see businesses and churches involved by purchasing a board at the cost of R350 each,” said Mtshali.

The foundation was established in 2021 as a social movement that aims to restore and redefine men and women in their positions as husbands and wives.

“We focus on behavioural change programs that enable men and women in their fight against divorce, gender-based violence and toxic masculinity or femininity,” said Mtshali.

“The foundation is committed to spreading the message and spirit of love, from which we can build truly functional families and communities.”

According to Mtshali, they chose to use boards as they have chosen to use the benefits of out-of-home advertising as it reaches people no matter how they consume their media, making them stop, notice, and react to the message.

“Through these boards, positioned on all main and exit roads, there is no one who will be at a disadvantage, including pedestrians,” said Mtshali.

“This is a community project, and can only be achieved if the community gets involved.”

“Issues that plague our society can only be fixed by us. We are the heroes we have been waiting for. As a foundation, we believe now is the time we get together as a community and use love as a weapon to fight against social ills that seek to destroy our societies.”
