Police arrest 85 suspects and recover firearms and stolen vehicles

Rapid Response held various operations around Gauteng which led to multiple arrests and recoveries of vehicles and unlicensed firearms.

Between February 2 and February 8, Rapid Response Services comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng arrested 85 suspects, recovering 40 motor vehicles and 10 firearms.

Members participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng.

These operations led to 30 arrests for serious crimes including assault common and GBH, business robbery, malicious damage to property, dealing in endangered species, theft, fraud, bribery, reckless and negligent driving and illegal immigrant.

A total of 40 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered with eight arrests for the possession of these vehicles.

Ten unlicensed firearms were recovered accompanying nine arrests.

In further policing, 38 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs.

Heroin, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.

The suspects will appear in the local magistrate’s courts across Gauteng.
