Local flying squad arrests 85 suspects and recover 47 vehicles and firearms

Heroine, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.

Rapid Response Services comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng arrested 85 suspects, and recovered 47 motor vehicles and seven firearms, between January 19 and January 25.

Officers participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng, which led to 35 arrests for serious crimes including assault common and GBH, business robbery, possession of suspected stolen goods, possession of counterfeit money, possession of illicit cigarettes, malicious damage to property, armed robbery, attempted murder and attempted business burglary among others.

Forty-seven hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered with 16 arrests for the possession of these vehicles.

Seven unlicensed firearms were recovered accompanying four arrests.

In further policing, 30 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs.

Investigation continues in these cases.

The suspects will appear in the local magistrate’s courts across Gauteng.
