Thembisa man gets life sentence for raping a minor

Major General Anna Sithole, the Commissioner of Ekurhuleni District, has praised the members' efforts in confining the perpetrators' area within the district and welcomed the sentencing.

With great pride, the SAPS Tembisa Family Violence, Child Protection Service and Sexual Offenses (FCS) Unit announced that Sergeant Kolobe Amia Kwenaite secured a hefty prison term for Tshepiso Mokoena (40).

The accused was recently found guilty of raping and kidnapping a minor child by the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court and was sentenced to life in prison.

The incident happened on February 10, 2019, in Olifantsfontein when a minor child was walking home from playing next door.

According to Ekurhuleni district media liaison officer Captain Neldah Sekgobela, the accused called the minor to collect a toy gun and a doll.

“The child followed the accused not knowing that she is going to fall prey to the man who raped her.

“The victim managed to escape the accused’s shack, running and crying. Her mother realised that she was bleeding profusely and that her child was not wearing underwear.

“After being taken to the hospital, the young girl’s privates were discovered to have suffered severe injuries. The suspect was arrested after he was found hiding in the bushes by community members.

“In court, the suspect pleaded not guilty. Sergeant Kwenaite presented all the evidence connecting the accused to the case,” said Sekgobela.

In a different case, Tembisa FCS Detective Sergeant Phuti Rafapa obtained a five-year prison sentence for the 38-year-old accused, Thembelani Moyo.

The offender was recently sentenced by the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl on January 15, 2021, in Ivory Park.

The victim was asleep in her home when the accused broke into her room without her noticing. He sexually assaulted her.
