Commissioner welcomes convictions

A local investigator was praised for his excellent efforts in apprehending Chicco Motubatse Mamaila in connection with a murder.

Detectives in the Ekurhuleni district continue to get praise from Major General Anna Sithole for the successful convictions they have recently secured.

In December 2020, a case of murder was opened and investigated by local SAPS.

According to the SAPS district communications officer, Captain Neldah Sekgobela, the defendant fatally stabbed and killed his partner with a knife while she was carrying a three-month-old child on her back.

The victim suffered 47 stab wounds across her body.

“After the incident, the accused fled the scene to Limpopo. When he arrived, he reported the matter to one of his relatives who informed Thembisa police officers about the whereabouts of the suspect and he was arrested.

“After a comprehensive investigation by Tembisa SAPS Detective Sergeant Mpho Gift Lepadile, the case was placed on the court roll and subsequently moved to the Johannesburg High Court,” said Sekgobela.

Chicco Motubatse Mamaila, 30, was recently found guilty of murder and handed a 15-year prison sentence.
