Valke Sevens end a good year

2023 was a good year for the Valke region. They walked away with a trophy and are already beefing up their squads for next season.

The year 2023 brought excitement for rugby sevens in the Valke region, according to Valke Sevens coach Stephen Els.

“This year, we brought back our annual sevens tournament. It gave us a chance to select a provincial Valke sevens squad.

“This squad is preparing for the 2024 season as we speak and will compete in sevens tournaments around the country next year,” he said.

He said this is a positive result for their regional clubs and the professional team because talented players will be exposed to a higher level of competition. It will also increase their pool of players to select or support their professional team.

“This year, the Valke professional team won the SARU Mzansi trophy, and the coach and his support team did a fantastic job with the team.

“The good news is that the same coaching panel was confirmed for the 2024 season, and 80% of the players’ squad were secured for next season.”

Els said their region is healthy, and the Valke can work with consistent and committed players.

“I am very excited for next season and cannot wait for it to start,” he said.
