SAPS arrests two in an operation

Both suspects will soon appear before the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court to answer a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and possession of suspected stolen goods, respectively.

The police detained two suspects on November 24 during an operation in connection with allegations of possessing an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and possessing suspected stolen property, respectively.

Following a tip regarding a man having a firearm, the crime prevention wardens, under the command of Officer Mashego of the Gauteng Traffic Police, detained the 43-year-old at his residence.

As per Constable Patricia Mgijima, the Tembisa SAPS communications officer, the officers promptly acted on the information.

“A black Pietro Beretta revolver with one magazine and 100 live rounds, its serial numbers still intact, was discovered in the custody of the suspect after searching his home in Tembisa’s Emangweni Section.

“He was taken into custody when he was unable to provide his gun permit when asked to do so. The suspect was arrested and detained in the Thembisa police cells.”

In another incident, a 38-year-old Malawian national was detained in Winnie Mandela, where officials discovered he had in his possession several cellphones of various makes.

It is believed they were stolen during a business burglary at a retail establishment in Phumulani Mall.
