EMPD issues warnings during by-law operation

All the visited places will be monitored during intervals.

The EMPD Bronberg Precinct officers visited the Benoni and Springs areas between November 20 and 22 to conduct municipal by-law operations.

According to EMPD spokesperson Kelebogile Thepa, the first stop was at an unregistered taxi rank in the Benoni area on the corner of Vlei Road next to a shopping complex.

“The co-ordinator of the taxi association and other taxi drivers were present when officers explained to them in detail that they were not allowed to operate there, and they must vacate the place,” she said.

“The illegal occupiers promised to stop their operations and leave.”

The second stop was on Springs Road, where a male occupant was verbally warned not to return before an illegal structure was demolished.

An abandoned building on Ninth Road in Bredell, once flooded with law enforcers due to a crime scene, was re-visited, and a few homeless occupants were told to move out since the building was previously deemed unsafe by authorities.

Thepa said they will monitor all the visited places during intervals.
