City calls for compliance when postering for voter registrations

The City of Ekurhuleni is encouraging all political parties to comply with the City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality Billboards and the Display of Advertisement (2017).

Voter registration took centre stage throughout the country over the weekend.

The City of Ekurhuleni has encouraged all political parties to comply with the City of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality Billboards and the Display of Advertisement (2017) by-laws.

The city is cognisant of the voter registration process and the necessity for political parties to put up posters in this regard.

In terms of Section 43 of the by-laws, category five posters, towards the initiative of voter registration must comply with the rules.

Posters must be fixed to electric light standards and fixed receptacles using a stable cord and no metal clamps or wire.

Posters shall not be used to advertise a commercial event. Posters must be at least 50m from the centre of the intersection and they are to be a maximum of three per lamp post or standard and shall not be displayed for a period extending more than 14 days after the registration days.

Political parties must know that any posters not removed after 14 (business) days will result in a fine of R57.69 per poster as approved in Schedule 19 of 2023/2024 financial year tariffs.

Within the city, the 14-day compliance period is effective from November 27 to December 11.

The city will grant an amnesty period for political parties to responsibly remove their posters during the week of November 20 to November 26 before the compliance period kicks in.

Thereafter the parties will be liable for penalties for any poster removed by the city and/or its agencies.
