A 37-year-old motorist found himself in handcuffs and his vehicle confiscated after being apprehended by officers from the EMPD’s Thembisa Precinct.
The incident occurred in the Leboeng Section on November 10 during a crime prevention operation.
According to Kelebogile Thepa, the spokesperson for the EMPD, officers approached a red VW Golf that was idling with a single occupant in the middle of Letsiakarane Street, causing an obstruction.

The officers requested the driver’s license, and on inspection, they saw the person in the photo did not match the individual behind the steering wheel.
They conducted a site interview, and the motorist confessed that the person in the photo was his brother and that he did not have a valid driver’s license.
Furthermore, he attempted to bribe the officers with money to ignore the situation.
The offender now faces fraud and bribery charges and was arrested and taken to the Thembisa South Police Station.

He will soon appear in the Thembisa Magistrate’s Court.
His VW Golf was impounded and held for safekeeping at the EMPD Thembisa Precinct.
