Trusting the suspect’s intentions, the two exchanged numbers that same day.

“On September 29, the suspect called me and asked to meet at Tembisa Hospital. The suspect then requested my company to a nearby garage to withdraw money.

“On arriving at the garage, we discovered that there was no ATM available.

“In act of trust and assurance, the suspect handed her bank card to me and directed me to Usave, a nearby store, to withdraw the money.

To my dismay, on reaching Usave, I found that the card had been emptied, leaving me in a state of distress.

“As panic set in and in a race against time, the security officer informed authorities that the suspect had fled in a green private car,” said Ndlovu.

All relevant role players were summoned, and a coordinated effort was launched to track down the suspect and rescue the baby.

Ekurhuleni District SAPS communications officer Captain Neldah Sekgobela appreciates the work done by the local law enforcers.

“Thanks to the dedication and swift action of law enforcement agencies, the suspect was apprehended, and the baby was found safe and unharmed.

“The suspect was charged with kidnapping,” said Sekgobela.

However, the ordeal has left the mother emotionally and financially strained. In light of this, she is now appealing to the community for support.
