Locals are empowered through fashion and philanthropy

A local online boutique takes a step towards social responsibility by organising a fun walk and donating sanitary pads to underprivileged young girls.

Dee’s Boutique, a prominent online boutique based in Small Street Johannesburg, is making waves in its community through its commitment to both fashion and philanthropy.

Named after its founder, Kempton Park resident Dimakatso, fondly known as Dee, the company has become a beacon of hope for the underprivileged in Thembisa.

In a heartfelt gesture to give back to the community, Dee’s Boutique decided to organise a community fashion show, an annual event that showcases local talent and celebrates the spirit of fashion within the community.

This year, however, they wanted to go a step further and make a tangible difference in the lives of young girls in need.

Recognising the significant challenges faced by unprivileged young girls in accessing sanitary pads, Dee’s Boutique embarked on a mission to provide them with this basic necessity.

They organised a fun walk, held recently, to raise awareness and collect donations of sanitary pads.

The event was inclusive, encouraging participation from all members of the community, including children.

The walk, aptly named ‘Walk with Dee, Talk with Dee’ aimed to not only promote physical activity but also foster open conversations about important issues, such as menstrual hygiene.

Participants were encouraged to bring a pack of sanitary pads or contribute as much as they could, making it a collective effort to support those in need.

The meeting place for the walk was Dee’s own residence in Norkem Park, creating a sense of familiarity and community spirit.

As participants gathered, the excitement and enthusiasm were palpable, reflecting the strong sense of unity and camaraderie within the community.

The event was a resounding success, with a significant turnout and an overwhelming number of donations.

Parents, children and individuals from all walks of life came together, united by a shared desire to make a positive impact.

As Dee’s Boutique continues to grow and thrive, its commitment to social responsibility remains unwavering.

They are dedicated to finding innovative ways to support and uplift their community, using their platform to create lasting change.
