The EMPD’s Bronberg Precinct officers and other stakeholders conducted a by-laws operation around the Petit, Clovedene and Rynfield areas from September 11 to 13.

According to EMPD spokesperson Kelebogile Thepa, the officers began investigations in Petit after discovering poor hygiene in a home where a poultry business appeared to be on the wrong path.

“The gates were locked because the authorities tried to enter. However, officials from the Health Department pledged to make an unannounced visit for a full inspection and, if necessary, halt operations,” said Thepa.

“Furthermore, an illegal and unsafe trader spotted at the corner of the R25 and R50 was removed because there were allegations she was once robbed of her belongings and was trading where it is prohibited.”

An unregistered street vendor on Birch Road received a written notice for operating without the necessary permit.

The EMPD officers visit an establishment to check for by-law infringements.

“A few outdoor businesses operating without a permit and the certificates required by the Dangerous Goods Act, and without taking the necessary safety precautions, including illegally refilling gas cylinders, and with the wrong zoning, were shut down, and some equipment was impounded.
