Norkem Park’s retired officer donates food to help the needy

A generous contribution by a retired police officer brings hope and support to the Tembisa Self Help Association of the Disabled (T-SHAD).

To mark Women’s Month, retired Lieutenant Colonel Ntombizakhe Mcaba, a resident of Norkem Park, recently donated groceries to the Tembisa Self-Help Association of the Disabled (T-SHAD).

This act of kindness aims to support the needy and empower them to become independent.

Mcaba expressed her desire to make a difference in her community, particularly by extending a helping hand to those in need.

As a woman, she believes in using her influence and resources to uplift others and foster self-sufficiency.

“I am so proud to have been part of making sure change happens. It gives me great joy to see that today, women can benefit from the seeds that were planted,” said Mcaba.

Having dedicated her life to the SAPS, Mcaba served for two terms as the vice president of POPCRU, where she played a pivotal role in implementing necessary changes.

Her commitment to raising her voice for the voiceless, marginalised and oppressed, remains unwavering, and she continues to take action against injustice.

T-SHAD, a community-based development programme established in 1990, expressed their sincere gratitude to Mcaba for her generous donation.

Retired Lieutenant Colonel Ntombizakhe Mcaba’s commitment to helping the needy and fostering self-dependence aligns perfectly with the spirit of Women’s Month, celebrating the strength and resilience of women in South Africa.

Brian Gezani Ndlovu, acting centre manager of T-SHAD, emphasised the significance of the helping hand they received from Mcaba.

The donated food items included toiletries, mealie meal, rice, soup and other essential items, providing much-needed sustenance for the organisation and the individuals it serves.

T-SHAD’s core mission is to empower people with disabilities and create opportunities for them to thrive and deliver meaningful services to the community.

With various income-generating projects, such as gardening, recycling, wheelchair repairs and computer training, T-SHAD aims to foster independence and self-sustainability among individuals with disabilities.

Furthermore, T-SHAD operates as a buy-back centre for recyclables, actively collecting PET (Polyethylene terephthalate), paper and glass.

Through partnerships with malls, taverns, hospitals and clinics in Thembisa, T-SHAD collects an average of two tons of PET every month.
