Thembisa rapist gets life imprisonment for multiple counts

Johannesburg High Court hands down severe punishment for Aganang Richmond Maleka, who committed multiple counts of kidnapping, robbery, rape, and assault in Tembisa between 2016 and 2018.

Ekurhuleni district commissioner Major General Anna Sithole has expressed satisfaction with the conviction and sentencing of Aganang Richmond Maleka, a 37-year-old suspect from Thembisa.

Maleka was found guilty of committing five counts of kidnapping, four counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances, five counts of rape and two counts of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The crimes occurred between 2016 and 2018.

The Johannesburg High Court, through Judge Mdalana Mayisela, described the rapes as particularly heinous, causing severe emotional, psychological and financial trauma to the victims.

One victim was so traumatised that she decided to quit her job, while another passed away following the incident.

Detective Sergeant Mafufuwe Lesford Mangwale of the Thembisa Family Violence and Child Protection Services meticulously investigated the cases, connecting the dots to ensure justice and closure for the victims.

Maleka was found guilty on September 8 and has been sentenced to three life imprisonment terms, along with an additional 119 years for all the charges.

“The conviction sends a clear message to other criminals in the district that the full might of the law will not be taken for granted,” Sithole said.

She also commended Mangwale for his work in restoring community trust in the police force.
