Two dead after overloaded vehicle crashes on R21

“It is alleged that the 12 passengers were from the same vehicle that was supposed to carry only five passengers.”

Two people died in a crash shortly after midnight on August 13.

The Kempton Park fire and rescue teams were dispatched for a motor vehicle accident on the R21 in the northerly direction, just after Emperors Palace.

Disaster and Emergency Management (DEMS) spokesperson Eric Maloka said on arrival they reported a single BMW SUV that had rolled several times.

During their assessment they noticed two people had been ejected from the vehicle.

Two people died after an accident on August 13.

Both patients were motionless and were declared dead by private ambulance staff on site.

According to Maloka, the survivors were all respectively transported to Tembisa Hospital by private ambulance and two patients refused transportation.

“It is alleged that the 12 passengers were from the same vehicle that was supposed to carry only five passengers.”

The cause of the accident is still unknown.

“The scene was handed over to law enforcement units for further investigations,” said Maloka.
