10 suspects nabbed by local flying squad members

The suspects will be appearing in the local magistrate’s courts facing charges of dealing and possession of drugs, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition, domestic violence and assault.

Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) members arrested 10 suspects and recovered one firearm and one motor vehicle between August 7 and 13.

The officers on August 8 followed up information on unlicensed ammunition, which lead them to Victoria Street, Brakpan.

Suspect found in possession of drugs.

A 47-year-old suspect was arrested on the premises when the officers found two live rounds of a 12-gauge shotgun in his possession.

Officers patrolling N12 highway west on August 9 noticed a silver-grey Lexus travelling at high speed.

“They followed the vehicle taking the Springs/Etwatwa offramp, still at a high speed towards Etwatwa. The officers pulled over the vehicle next to Emandela Section and conducted a search,” said the BFS spokesperson, Warrant Officer Grant Giblin.

Recovered firearm.

They found three large bags of dagga, valued at about R50 000 inside the Lexus and arrested the 36-year-old driver.

BFS members also followed up information from crime intelligence of an unlicensed firearm, which lead the officers to a shop in Blue Acara Street, Ivory Park.

They arrested a 25-year-old foreigner when the officers recovered on the premises a 9mm Beretta pistol with its number filed off and 18 live rounds of ammunition.

In another case, a woman stopped BFS members while patrolling Etwatwa on August 13.

The complainant reported her son had assaulted her.

“The 29-year-old suspect was traced to Masakhane Street and arrested immediately.”

Six suspects were arrested for being in possession of drugs in Benoni, Brakpan, Thembisa and Etwatwa.

Nyaope (heroine), Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were recovered in these separate incidents.

In further policing, one abandoned stolen white Toyota Hilux was recovered at Manamela Street, Ivory Park reported on a Rustenburg case.
