Laerskool Kruinsig learner features in a short film

Through had work and determination Shanell Otto aims to create her name in the acting industry.

Shanell Otto, a learner at Laerskool Kruinsig, made her Kyknet debut on July 22 in the short film Want liefde kosmos niks.

Theresa Brits, the mother of the 10-year-old, said her daughter was ecstatic and proud of what she has accomplished.

“She feels very fortunate and pleased with herself because it took many long hours to practice the scripts. My family is bursting with pride, as this exceeded our expectations,” she said.

According to Brits, her daughter was one of the winners of a Wysneusies competition she entered in 2021, of which she performed with Ronnie die Renoster as one of the winners.

They performed at the Barnyard in Menlyn alongside Izak Davel, Tjiff & Tjaff and Buster die Brak. They also worked with Ronnie to make a music video that was aired on Kyknet.

“Shanell was asked to perform either a poem or a recital of her choice at the audition. Amor Vittone and the late Bradley Olivier served as the judges.

“Three days later, we received an email informing us that she had been chosen for a part in a short film. This is a huge achievement for my daughter.”

Brits said Shanell was mentored by Izak Davel.

“We attended his monthly sessions where he prepared the selected learners for the filming. Following the big day when the short video was shot, she was given a certificate for completing the course.”

Brits said Shanell hopes to advance her acting career and ultimately become a doctor.

“The movie was released on July 22 after two days of filming,” she said.
