Man shot and killed in Thembisa robbery

“Law enforcement agencies are diligently working around the clock to bring the perpetrators to justice."

An alarming incident transpired on the evening of July 26, sending shockwaves through the community of Vusimuzi Section, Thembisa South.

According to Captain Neldah Sekgobela, Ekurhuleni District communications officer, the deceased and his friends were enjoying an evening out when they were unexpectedly approached by three individuals armed with firearms.

“Faced with this terrifying situation, panic ensued. One of the friends managed to escape and take cover, while another surrendered and handed over the cash he had in his pocket, as demanded. In a desperate bid for safety, the deceased fled in a different direction, separating from his companions,” said Sekgobela.

“The two friends, upon realising the absence of their other friend, retraced their steps. Their worst fears were realised when they discovered their friend lying motionless on his back, having sustained gunshot wounds to his upper body.

“Despite the prompt arrival of paramedics, the victim was declared dead at the scene. The loss of a valued member of the community has left everyone saddened, mourning the life cut short by this act of violence,” said Sekgobela.

The South Tembisa Police Station launched a murder investigation.

“Law enforcement agencies are diligently working around the clock to bring the perpetrators to justice.

“We are appealing to anyone who may possess crucial information regarding the whereabouts or identities of the suspects to come forward and aid in their apprehension.”
