Ivory Park Facebook rapist gets a life sentence
On July 12, Munyai was sentenced to life for rape,15 years for aggravated robbery and five years for kidnapping by the Tembisa Regional Court.
The SAPS management in the Ekurhuleni district has welcomed a life sentence handed to an Ivory Park rapist.
The rapist used Facebook to lure his victim from Limpopo only to rape her when she arrived.
Thomas Munyai was arrested by the Ivory Park SAPS officers just hours after raping the victim in September 2021.
The victim managed to retrace her travels. This led officers to Munyai’s shack in Tswelopele, within the Ivory Park policing precinct.

The district commander of the Ekurhuleni District, Major General Anna Sithole, said Munyai deserves all the years that came his way.
“I would like to thank Detective Sergeant Ramila from our Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for his sterling handling of this painful and delicate case.
“My colleagues and I are proud of this work ethic and we hope that the victim will derive consolation from this lengthy sentence for Munyai,” said Sithole.
