78 suspects nabbed for various crimes in Gauteng

A joint-effort by various law enforcement bodies proved to be a success recently.

Between June 23 and June 29, Rapid Response Services, comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng, arrested 78 suspects, recovering 51 motor vehicles and 14 firearms.

Members participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle check points, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng, which led to 20 arrests for serious crimes including assault common and GBH, possession of suspected stolen goods, warrant of arrest, possession of unlicensed ammunition, malicious damage to property, theft, fraud and rape.

Fifty-one hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered with nine arrests for the possession of these vehicles.

Fourteen unlicensed firearms were recovered accompanying 22 arrests. In further policing, 27 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs.

Heroin, dagga, cocaine, mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.
Investigations into all cases will continue.

The suspects will be appearing in local magistrate’s courts across Gauteng.
