Taal-Net schools take part in athletics day

The 11 competing schools wore different colours to represent their branches.

The first term is known throughout all schools as the athletic season and Taal-Net schools are no different.

On March 3, various Taal-Net branches descend on the Germiston Stadium competition grounds.

This year’s competitors included Kempton Park Christian School as well as Africa Union International (Midrand), who gave their all to win the first-place trophy.

Competing in various track and field events, it was a day well spent with schools and parents cheering on the athletes.

Winners of the girls’ U17 200m sprint. In first place is Awethu Ndiweni from Randburg, in second place is Sihle Maphosa from Turffontein and in third place is Katlego Mohlabi from Roodepoort branch.

An exciting addition to the proceedings was the inclusion of the Grade R and Grade 1 sack races, ensuring the lower grades also had something to look forward to.

The new kid on the block, Taal-Net Oasis (Soweto), in maroon, stunned the competitors by consistently placing in the track races, proving to be a force to be reckoned with.

Taal-Net director Bianca Mkandla awards the top finishers of the girl’s100m primary open their medals. First place was Mandy Maphosa from Randburg, second place was Ashley Chitaka and third was Princess Mhuru.

In the end, however, it was Turffontein in purple who was awarded third place, Kempton Park in yellow with second place and Randburg in white who took the winners’ cup.
