Many have reported that large pools of sewage accumulated on roads in Bonaero Park have resulted in roads crumbling away.

Blocked drains are a common sight.

According to Sarah Smith, residents have continually complained to the municipality about blocked waterlines and a nearly non-functioning stormwater system.

“We are afraid that when it rains it might lead to floods.

“We’re hoping the problem can be fixed before there’s a major incident in the area.”

She said some of the worst affected roads include Eldorado Street, which has become an eyesore for residents.

“Almost every street in Bonaero Park has a sewerage blockage and potholes.”

Ward 23 Clr André Du Plessis said the City of Ekurhuleni had put out a tender for a new sewer line installation, which started in 2011.

One of the many blocked drains in Bonaero Park.

“The contractor dug the manholes by hand so that they could do underground drilling from one manhole to the other.

“However, the contractor who was appointed did not have the capacity and the material to do underground drilling,” said Du Plessis.

He further explained that some of the manholes had since collapsed.
