Police arrest five suspects for robbery and seize firearms

On searching the vehicles two toy guns and 13 cell phones were found.

Kempton Park SAPS Sergeant Sibuyi recently foiled a robbery while travelling to work from his home in Benoni.

According to Kempton Park SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Dipuo Ditshego, Sibuyi said that while driving along Howard Street in Benoni, he was stopped by a woman who told him she was robbed at gunpoint by suspects driving a Datsun vehicle.

Sibuyi saw the same vehicle speeding towards Voortrekker Road in Kempton Park and gave chase while calling for backup.

“When the vehicle was stopped all occupants were instructed to get out of the vehicle.

“On searching the vehicle, two toy guns and 13 cellphones were found with the suspects,” said Ditshego.

“More victims were called to identify their belongings and a SAP 299 was completed.

“All belongings were lawfully handed back to its owners.

“All other items including the toy guns used during the robberies were booked in as exhibits,” said Ditshego.
Ditshego said Sibuyi showed bravery when he put his life on the line for the citizens.

“He maintained public safety and accountability to those who broke the law.”

The five suspects will appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court, facing charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of suspected stolen property.

Sibuyi’s bravery and selfness were applauded by Brigadier Lindani Ndlovu, Kempton Park station commander.
“Sibuyi understands that the community has lost hope in SAPS.

“He knows that each time he puts on his uniform, there are risks to protect others, and that’s exactly what he did. He put his life on the line to protect others.”
