Man arrested in Kempton CBD with drugs valued at over R80k

Officers noticed suspicious movements at a street vendor stall and found dagga, illicit cigarettes, 144 LSD drug sachets and more.

EMPD officers arrested a 53-year-old foreign national in the Kempton Park CBD yesterday, September 5 after he was found with drugs valued at more than R80 000.

Spokesperson for the City of Ekurhuleni, Zweli Dlamini said the man will face charges of dealing in and possession of drugs, possession of illicit cigarettes and possession of suspected stolen property.

“He will face additional charges of being in possession of a fraudulent South African ID and being in contravention of the Immigration Act.”

EMPD officers were patrolling the area when they noticed “suspicious movements at a street vendor stall”.

During investigations, dagga, illicit cigarettes, 144 LSD drug sachets, and 70 bottles of cough syrup were found.

Dlamini confirmed that the man was detained at the Kempton Park Police Station and will be appearing in court soon.
