Police arrest 95 suspects, recover 64 vehicles and 17 firearms

Heroine, dagga, cat (cocaine), Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were among the items confiscated.

Rapid Response Services comprising of Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng arrested 95 suspects, and recovered 64 motor vehicles and 17 firearms between August 23 and 29.

Officers participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng.

These operations led to 39 arrests for serious crimes including assault common and GBH, shoplifting, business burglary, contempt of court, malicious damage to property, theft, attempted murder, crimen injuria, possession of unlicensed ammunition, armed robbery, murder and intimidation.

A total of 64 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered with 20 arrests for the possession of these vehicles.

In other successes, 17 unlicensed firearms were recovered accompanying eight arrests.

In further policing, 28 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs.

Investigation continues in all cases. The suspects will be appearing in the local magistrate’s courts across Gauteng.
