Police nab 13 suspects, recover vehicle and firearm

Two suspects were arrested on the N17 when they were found with four cartons of illegally imported Remington Gold cigarettes.

Between August 13 and 17, Benoni Flying Squad members arrested 13 suspects and recovered three motor vehicles and one firearm.

On August 13 at around 09:45, officers pulled over a white Quantum on N12 at Kingsway.

One suspect was arrested when members found a bag of copper cables with an estimated value of R6 000 in the vehicle.

Following up on drug information on August 14, officers at around 06:00 pulled over a Nissan truck on N12 at the Daveyton offramp.

The driver was immediately arrested after members found 10 plastic bags containing dagga in the vehicle.

Two suspects were arrested for possession of drugs at Newlands Avenue Benoni and Daveyton Hostel.

Nyaope and rocks (cocaine) were recovered in these separate incidents.

A charge of bribery was added when they offered members R200 for their release.

Thursday evening members of Midrand detectives traced a suspect wanted for armed robbery on a Midrand case to Voortrekker Road, Brakpan and arrested him.

In further policing, three abandoned vehicles were recovered, a white Toyota Dyna truck at Meyer Street, Germiston reported stolen on a Midrand case, a white Nissan NP200 at Teanong Section, Thembisa reported hijacked on a Kwa Thema case and a white Isuzu at Mashimong Section, Thembisa reported hijacked on a Thembisa case.

Investigation continues.

The suspects will be appearing in the local magistrate’s courts facing charges of possession of drugs, possession of suspected stolen goods, armed robbery, possession of illicit cigarettes, bribery, assault, attempted murder, drunken driving and interfering with the carrying out of duties.
