Norkem Park police warn of rise in cybercrime

If you suspect you were a victim of cybercrime or have encountered suspicious activity, report it immediately to the Norkem Park SAPS on 071675 6802/3 or 011 960 0348.

The Norkem Park SAPS has issued a crucial warning to the community over an alarming increase in reported cybercrimes.

Norkem Park SAPS spokesperson Warrant Officer Barbara-Anne Ferreira says they have recently noted an alarming increase in fraud cases targeting individuals and businesses in Kempton Park.

“Cyber criminals employ sophisticated tactics, including phishing scams, ransomware attacks, and identity theft schemes, to exploit unsuspecting victims,” said Ferreira.

“These malicious activities jeopardise personal and financial information, disrupt businesses and compromise community safety.”

To prevent cybercrimes, Ferreira advises all to be aware of these key warning signs:

• Unsolicited emails or messages requesting personal information or payment details.

• Unexpected or suspicious software downloads, unusual activity on bank or credit card statements and pop-up ads or alerts claiming your device is infected and requires immediate action.
