Police operations take firearms and drugs off the streets

Officers recovered 59 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles, with nine arrests for the possession of these vehicles.

Rapid Response Services, comprising the Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng, arrested 129 suspects and recovered 59 motor vehicles and five firearms between August 8 and 15.

Members participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng.

These operations led to 59 arrests for serious crimes, including assault common and GBH, possession of suspected stolen property, common robbery, house robbery, possession of house-breaking implements, possession of car-breaking implements, domestic violence, illicit cigarettes, malicious damage to property, theft, housebreaking, intimidation, possession of unlicensed ammunition and possession of endangered species.

Officers recovered 59 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles, with nine arrests for the possession of these vehicles.

They also recovered five unlicensed firearms, accompanying three arrests.

In further policing, the SAPS made 58 arrests for possession of and dealing in drugs. Heroin, dagga, cat (cocaine), Mandrax, and crystal meth were among the drugs confiscated in these separate incidents.

Investigations continue in these cases.

The suspects will appear in local magistrate’s courts across Gauteng.
