Local flying squad nabs 10 suspects and recover two vehicles

One of the suspects was in possession of 60 cellphones allegedly taken in a business robbery reported in Bethal.

Officers from the Benoni Flying Squad arrested 10 suspects and recovered two motor vehicles between July 15 and 19.

On July 15, officers responded to a call for backup along Tom Jones Road in Benoni.

Three suspects were arrested for robbery and possession of a cellphone allegedly taken from the complainant.
On the same day, an illegal immigrant was arrested along Princess Avenue, Benoni.

On July 16, at around 12:30 officers patrolling on the N12 noticed a commotion at the Sundra off-ramp next to a white Hyundai H100.

“When officers stopped one person ran away and the driver of the H100 alleged the suspect attempted to hijack him,” said Benoni Flying Squad spokesperson, Warrant Officer Grant Giblin.

“The suspect (28) was chased down and arrested for attempted hijacking.”

According to Giblin, on July 18, officers worked with members of the Highway Patrol Unit to arrest a 31-year-old suspect wanted in connection with a business robbery.

The suspect was in possession of 60 cellphones allegedly taken in a business robbery reported in Bethal.

On the same day, a 66-year-old was arrested for shoplifting in Kempton Park.

“Three suspects were arrested for possession of drugs at North Rand Road, Kempton Park and Duduza, Ext 8.

Nyaope, crystal methamphetamine and dagga were recovered in these separate incidents. In further policing, two stolen vehicles were recovered.

“Investigations continue in all cases.

“The suspects will be appearing in the local magistrate’s courts facing charges of robbery and possession of suspected stolen property, possession of drugs, attempted hijacking, illegal immigrant and shoplifting,” said Giblin.
