SAPS arrest 76 suspects, seize firearms and recover stolen vehicles

The law enforcers recovered hijacked and stolen motor vehicles, with six arrests made for the possession of these vehicles.

Rapid Response Services, comprising the Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng, arrested 76 suspects and recovered 34 motor vehicles and four firearms between June 21 and 27.

Officers participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng.

These operations led to 46 arrests for serious crimes, including assault common and GBH, possession of suspected stolen property, drinking and driving, business robbery, possession of counterfeit money, possession of illicit cigarettes, pointing of firearm and possession of unlicensed ammunition.

The law enforcers recovered hijacked and stolen motor vehicles, with six arrests made for the possession of these vehicles.

They recovered four unlicensed firearms accompanied by four arrests.

In further policing, there were 20 arrests made for the possession of and dealing in drugs. Heroin, dagga and crystal meth were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.

Investigations continue in these cases.

The suspects will appear in the local magistrate’s courts across Gauteng.
