Six arrested in Kempton Park for diesel theft

Three of the six men arrested during the operation were employed at the depot where the diesel was stolen from.

Police officers from the Norkem Park Police Station conducted a special operation on Saturday which led to the arrest of six men for diesel theft.

Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela, has lauded the execution of the operation, in which stolen property to the value of R1-million was recovered.

Armed with a search warrant, granted on the back of suspicion, the officers pounced on an address in the Kempton Park suburb of Birch Acres on Saturday.

Police officers arrested six men alleged to have been routinely stealing diesel.

Apart from the 5 000 litres of diesel that was found and seized, the officers also confiscated two vehicles, 58 cellphones, three laptops and 80 bank cards.

Other valuable found on the property included three batteries (one lithium and two Vodacom), 12 diesel containers and two air pistols.

“We send our gratitude to the Norkem Park team that carried out this search and the subsequent arrests and recoveries.

“This will clearly send a message to the criminal elements that they will be swiftly dealt with,” said Mawela.

The six suspects, whose ages range from 23 and 45, appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on Monday to face charges of possession of suspected stolen property.

Three of the men are employees of the depot from which the diesel was routinely stolen.

The outcome of the court appearance is currently unknown.
