Rapid response leads to 95 arrests

35 hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered with six arrests for the possession of these vehicles.

Rapid response units comprising Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng arrested 95 suspects between May 12 and 18.

They also recovered 35 motor vehicles and seven firearms.

Officers participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng, which led to 40 arrests for serious crimes including assault common and GBH, possession of suspected stolen goods, business breaking, illegal immigrant, possession of illicit cigarettes, malicious damage to property, robbery, cash in transit, contempt of court, reckless and negligent driving and defeating the ends of justice.

Thirty-five hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered with six arrests for the possession of these vehicles.

Seven unlicensed firearms were recovered accompanying seven arrests.

In further policing, 42 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs.

Heroine, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and crystal methamphetamine were among those confiscated in these separate incidents.

Investigation into all cases will continue while the suspects will be appearing in local magistrate’s courts across Gauteng.
