Fraudster nabbed at OR Tambo

The suspect allegedly ran bogus nursing colleges and fraudulently registered unsuspecting students under the pretext that they were to acquire diplomas in nursing.

A fraudster on the run since 2017 was arrested by police officers from Makhado at OR Tambo International Airport on March 11.

The woman (54) faces fraud and theft under false pretences charges.

This was after she allegedly defrauded several unsuspecting job seekers and persons aspiring to acquire nursing qualifications.

The suspect allegedly ran bogus nursing colleges and fraudulently registered unsuspecting students under the pretext that they were to acquire diplomas in nursing.The victims were guaranteed employment on completion of their studies.

The suspect’s fraudulent dealings were unmasked when it was learnt that the colleges were not authentic.

The students immediately opened cases of fraud and theft under false pretences against the woman in Polokwane, Morebeng, Thohoyandou, Waterval and across Gauteng.

The woman evaded arrest in 2017 when she fled to Nigeria.

A breakthrough in the case came when detectives from Makhado received information that the suspect would return to South Africa from Nigeria and arrive at OR Tambo International Airport.

Officers arrested her soon after she arrived.

The provincial commissioner of police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commended the good work of the officers.

The woman was to appear in the Louis Trichardt Magistrate’s Court last week. The outcome is not yet known.
