According to the business owner Rajeev Bhaghan, the shop was broken into last Wednesday night.

“It was around 22:30 when the alarm went off and when the security company called I asked them to investigate.

The wires and cables of a local business in Edleen were cut during a recent incident where all their solar products with an estimated value of R300 000 were stolen.

“I normally also go out to check with my dogs, however, because it was raining I thought maybe the rain or the strong wind had triggered one of the beams. I didn’t think much of it.

“The security company’s reaction officers didn’t seem to see anything and we thought all was well.”

Bhaghan said they made a shocking discovery the following morning when they went to open the shop.

“We realised that we had been robbed. This is despite all our security measures.

“They entered through the roof. We suspect that they were hiding in the ceiling when the security from the security company arrived.

“They managed to trace the security and camera cables in the ceiling and cut all of them.

“They broke some of the cameras outside the property and turned the direction of all those inside the building.

They also took the digital video recorder system that records everything the cameras capture.

“At this stage, we are unable to even access the drive to see what happened even before the cables were cut.

“I am shattered and still am in disbelief of the kind of damage and setback all of this has caused.”

“They took one of our TVs that were mounted on the wall, and although they removed the other one, they left it on the floor,” said business owner Rajeev Bhaghan.

Rajeev said their security system, estimated between R50 000 to R60 000, has been destroyed.

“They took one of our TVs that were mounted on the wall, and although they removed the other one, they left it on the floor,” explained a saddened Bhaghan.

“They also took two of our point-of-sale systems and damaged the tills in the process.

“It seems they were after the solar products as they stole boxes of solar LED lights, solar inverters, solar batteries and solar panels among others.”

The shop owner told the Express that the suspects stole electric cables and that the estimated value of the items stolen is between R250 000 to R300 000.

It seems the suspects tried to gain entry through one of the sliding doors.

“We need to repair, replace and up our security measures now.

“It is not easy operating a business and crime makes things even harder.

“We are desperately trying to recover what we lost.”
