Buffalo killed in early morning crash on R21

It is believed the buffalo killed this morning was one of two spotted on the same stretch of road over the weekend.

A buffalo was killed on the R21 before the R25 exit this morning after it was struck by a motor vehicle.

The bovine is believed to be one of two roaming the area over this past weekend.

It is currently unknown if there were any other injuries reported as a result of the collision and the Kempton Express awaits comment from EMPD and emergency services.

On Sunday, two buffalo were spotted on the highway and several attempts were made to secure them.

Despite concentrated efforts from various organisations to rescue the buffalo neither of the animals could be tracked for relocation.

This is the second time in the last year the buffalo have been spotted on or near the R21.

In March last year, the Kempton SPCA confirmed that they are aware of reports that three buffalo were on the loose in Kempton Park.

The three large bovines were seen on CCTV footage near the R25 between Serengeti and Eastlands.

It remains unknown where the animals originate from.
