Syndicate abandons cloned traffic police vehicle in Kempton Park

It is believed that the vehicle belonged to a syndicate hijacking trucks travelling on the N12, R24, R21 and N3 in the Gauteng.

Police officers have recovered a cloned Gauteng Traffic Police vehicle in Edleen, Kempton Park.

The vehicle which was recovered yesterday, December 29, is suspected to have been used in the commissioning of truck hijackings across Gauteng.

According to Captain Nelda Sekgobela, SAPS Ekurhuleni district spokesperson officers from the Sebenza Police Station were called to the scene.

“On arrival officers found a man who informed them that the occupants of the vehicle had hijacked him in Kempton Park and took his truck.

“The two vehicle occupants were dressed in traffic police uniforms at the time of the incident,” said Sekgobela.

She added that the victim was transporting pasta when he was stopped by the bogus officers.

“An unknown number of suspects drove away with the truck, while the complainant was put inside the cloned vehicle with two of the bogus officers.”

The cloned vehicle was spotted and followed by officers from the real traffic police.

“Officers tried to stop the suspects but they refused and one shot was fired at the cloned vehicle.”

Sekgobela added that the vehicle occupants managed to evade the officers and abandoned the vehicle with their victim inside near a primary school in Edleen.

Information obtained by the Kempton Express suggests that the vehicle belonged to a syndicate targeting trucks travelling on the N12, R24, R21 and N3 in the Gauteng.

Previously, police have successfully been able recover another fully marked vehicle believed to belong to the same syndicate.
