Woman dies after she is hit by a car on R21

The victim’s remains were transported to the Germiston Mortuary.

On May 17, officers from the EMPD Freeway Unit attended to a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on the R21 north before the Voortrekker Road off-ramp in Kempton Park.

EMPD spokesperson Kelebogile Thepa said when officers arrived they found a female pedestrian lying motionless on the road.

According to Thepa, it is alleged that the woman attempted to cross the freeway in a northern direction when she was hit by a white Ford Ranger.

“Paramedics and other emergency services were called to the scene and declared the 38-year-old woman dead,” said Thepa.

She added that the victim’s remains were transported to the Germiston Mortuary.

Thepa said that the case of culpable homicide was opened at Kempton Park Police Station and further investigations are underway.
