Over 200kg of food and a number of much-needed blankets were collected.

Tex Butchery on Monument Road also donated 50kg of fresh bones for the dogs to enjoy.

Manager for the SPCA branch, Kira Sparrow, thanked the community and Tex Butchery for heading the call for donations.

“We are grateful for the donations from the community. As an organisation we are always in need of food for the animals in our care.”

Editor for the Express, Charmaine Slater said organisations such as the SPCA play a vital role in any community.

“The work the Kempton Park SPCA does not only in our community but also in areas which surround us is invaluable.

“Without the support of community members and businesses in Kempton Park this important organisation in our community cannot continue its work,” said Slater.

She added that for organisations such as the SPCA, monthly donations are critical.

“If every household could add just one bag of food to their groceries every month, it would make a world of difference for the SPCA.”

Sparrow said with anything between 80 and 120 dogs and 40 cats in their care at any one time, the SPCA was always in need to food donations.

Food donations are not only used to feed the animals currently housed at the SPCA but are also used during outreach campaigns.

“We often have reports of abandoned animals and need to make sure we can feed those animals where they were abandoned while looking for their owners,” Sparrow said.

Currently, the Kempton Park SPCA is in need of food and blanket donations.

Residents can contact the organisation on 011 975 6537 or drop donations off at 130 Fitter Road, Spartan.
