CoE establishes help desks for local SMMEs

Managed by members of the procurement office, it is hoped the tender process will be streamlined.

After a string of workshops were held across Ekurhuleni relating to the metro’s new Preferential Procurement Regulations of 2022, small, medium and micro enterprises (SMME) can now access three help desks to streamline the tender process.

“The new regulatory framework, which came into effect at the beginning of the year, replaces the 2017 regulations,” said Zweli Dlamini, the spokesperson for the CoE.

“This guides the city’s supply chain management processes when sourcing goods and services from suppliers.”

He said the intervention would assist SMMEs to register and become part of the supplier database, complete tender forms, and navigate the new regulations.

“Interactions through the workshops held in March explained how the help desks, which are available in Thembisa, Benoni and Germiston, will function, thus making the tender process hassle-free,” said Dlamini.

“The help desks will be managed by teams of professionals from the procurement office, who are ready to assist business owners with any queries that may arise.”
