Kempton beauty queen begins her journey to the crown

Pondo Moipone Osuigwe selected as a Mrs South Africa 2023 semi-finalist.

Kempton Park resident Pondo Moipone Osuigwe can now add Mrs South Africa semi-finalist to her resume as she joins the class of 2023.

The Terenure local received the news on February 3 after the national casting event at Emperors Palace.

Kempton Park resident Pondo Moipone Osuigwe can now add Mrs South Africa semi-finalist to her resume as she joins the class of 2023.

Following the announcement, the semi-finalists partook in a jam-packed two-day conference filled with motivational talks, workshops, upskilling sessions, socialising, networking opportunities and an introduction to the Mrs SA sisterhood.

“I was ecstatic when I heard that I have made it. It was unbelievable, as there were so many gorgeous ladies.

“I said to myself, Pondo this is your time to shine and become the woman you have always wanted to be,” she said.

Mrs South Africa is a self-discovery and empowerment programme that celebrates diversity, ambition and confidence while showcasing some of the country’s most phenomenal and talented women and giving them skills and tools to achieve their dreams.

“We are proud to work alongside so many strong, formidable, and inspirational married women and to empower them through our pillars of community, self-development and networking to be the leaders and social game-changers that we need in this country,” said Joani Johnson, CEO of Mrs SA.

“Our experienced mentors teach leadership, entrepreneurship, marketing, self-promotion and self-discovery throughout the year to ensure that all participants have a truly life-changing experience.”

Pondo said she entered the Mrs SA pageant to be an inspiration, motivate others and help make dreams come true.

“I am a wife and mother of three boys. I am a program manager and a founder of Pondo Beauty Spa and Designs.”

As part of her journey, she hopes to help women gain confidence and reach their dreams.

“I want to expand the feeding schemes in our community, where we feed the homeless and the needy.

“I want to be involved in other community programs that can uplift someone. I am also looking at assisting to merge the gap between urban and rural educational programs and provide basic toiletries to the unprivileged children,” she added.

Johnson said, “We are blown away by the number of high-quality entries we received this year and appreciated meeting many wonderful women from all walks of life.

“The national casting day was exceptionally difficult, as a substantial number of entrants have what it takes to make a success of this programme.”

The casting panel was looking for women who have an interest in empowering others, display strong family values and are passionate about making a difference in their community and the world.

“Pondo fully embodies the values that Mrs SA holds and represents our tagline for the year #EveryWoman. We look forward to this journey with her and her fellow sisters,” said Johnson.
