Tracking of escaped buffalo still underway

"Rangers from Dinokeng Nature Reserve are working with the Gauteng Department of Agriculture to get the animals moved."

Judy Davidson from the South African Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre confirmed to the Express this afternoon that none of the buffalo spotted in Kempton Park had been caught.

“We know where they are and they are safe. We have no idea where they came from and initially we thought they might have escaped from Rietvlei Nature Reserve, but it’s too far for them to have travelled”

She added that rangers from Dinokeng Nature Reserve were working with the Gauteng Department of Agriculture to get the animals moved.

Judy said there had been conflicting reports on the number of bovines on the loose.

“One report said there were three and another report said five so we can’t be 100% sure.

“They are safe at this point and we are making sure they don’t end up on the roads,” she said.
