City’s debt collection drive increases

The projections are that about R2b will be recouped by the end of this month.

The City of Ekurhuleni’s MMC for Finance, Councillor Fanyana Nkosi, is pleased with the work done by its Revenue Enhancement team in recovering money owed to the CoE by residents and businesses.

The team began to recover the outstanding debt last month.

Projections are that about R2b will be recouped by the end of this month.

“Outstanding debtors in the system amount to over R22b.”

Nkosi added that he was delighted to see this move bear fruit so quickly because it will bolster service delivery and improve life for the residents.

“The City of Ekurhuleni’s operations have largely been hampered by wide-ranging cases of non-payment by those using services provided by the municipality.

“In some cases, the services were accessed via illegal electricity connections. Our officials are finding those culprits, disconnecting them and forcing them to pay up their overdue accounts,” he explained.
