EMPD takes road safety campaign to Thembisa

Road safety awareness in Thembisa.

As part of their Back to School campaign, the EMPD Northern Region Social Crime Prevention Unit officers conducted a road safety awareness operation at a taxi rank in Thembisa area on January 14.

Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, the spokesperson for the EMPD, said the operation aimed to guarantee adherence to the National Road Traffic Act (Act 93 of 1996), which included checking for vehicle and driver fitness, proper vehicle licensing, overloading, and legal permits.

The EMPD ensures that taxi drivers adhere to road rules.

“The EMPD officers also explained that drivers can reduce accidents/crashes on the roads by adhering to the rules and regulations of the road.

“The officers also went to a park in Temong section to educate children about the importance of safety.

“They were urged to report bullying, child neglect, and abuse when they return to school.

“This is an ongoing operation performed in all regions in the City of Ekurhuleni,” said Thepa.
