Local charity organisations benefit from sporting charity events

A community organization named I AM A WOMAN donated non-perishable foods, sanitary pads, toiletries, and clothing to the six charities.

I am a Woman in partnership with Mordecai Ndlovu Foundation held a sporting charity event at Norkem Park High School to help raise and collect donations for six local Thembisan and Kempton Park charities on October 22.

The event was sponsored by BUCO, Pick n Pay AJP, Ledwaba Attorneys, Tshiqi Zebediela Attorneys, GauMed, Norkem Park High School and TAP.

The six chosen to receive donations of non-perishable foods, sanitary pads, toiletries and clothing were the Thembisa Self-Help Association of the Disabled (T-SHAD), Tshegofatsa Rona Welfare and Community Organisation, Tawana Community NPO Children’s Home, Siyazigabisa Home to orphans, runaways and battered women, Tshepang Care Centre and Tembisa Child Welfare Society.

Both NGO’s embarked on the task of hosting the Homes United League sports tournament, an event aimed at empowering charity homes through a fundraising event.

The event included a mini soccer and netball tournament and teams respectively represented the six charity homes with pride.

The teams were made up of local sports enthusiasts who volunteered their time and energy to assist the NGO’s to earn much-needed supplies for the charity homes.

The event, according to one of the organisers Nhlanhla Ndlovu, was successful as many individuals came to support the initiative despite the bad weather.

“Even though it was raining heavily during this our first event, a large crowd showed up to support.

“The weather wasn’t conducive to play, but everyone who had committed to participating on the day, whether by participating or by watching, they never stopped rooting for us.

The local NGOs’ aim of giving back to the community was something that sports enthusiasts were motivated to support.

“The teams that came to play didn’t just show up empty-handed; they also contributed to the cause.

“The teams competed in the inclement weather, and after the matches, deserved winners received medals and trophies supplied by Mordecai Ndlovu as a token of appreciation for their participation.”

Ndlovu said that both organisations want to express their gratitude to everyone for their support of the worthwhile cause.

“We were able to donate money to six charities with the help of our contributors, athletes, sponsors, and spectators.

“We didn’t accomplish this on our own, rather with their help. We would like to express our gratitude to them for their kind contributions.”

“We are thrilled to have their assistance. We were able to complete the difficult task of supporting six charities because of their commitment and contribution, and we will keep working to enhance our neighborhood.

We will always be grateful to them for the way they genuinely impacted our lives. Without them, we wouldn’t have been able to do it,” said Ndlovu.

Sarah Sibiya, the founder of Tsepang Care Center, stated that this was very significant to them because it aided the disadvantaged individuals they were taking care of.

“We are overwhelmed with gratitude by the way the organisations assisted us with the donations and how the gesture will positively have an impact in the lives of the disadvantaged children and orphans in the centre.

“It also encourages us to work more and help other kids and encourages us to know that we have people like you who have passion to help others who are increasingly in need.

“There is not enough words to describe how greatly blessed we are by your contribution and we hope that you will continue in your gracious ways, not only to us but also to others and make a difference in their lives and give them hope,” said Sibiya.
