The NPO was founded earlier to promote empowerment programmes aimed at advancing the status, well-being, safety and security of vulnerable and needy people within our community.

Matshidiso Teffo, a 23-year-old TUT alumni, said the organisation chose to launch the initiative because one in every five adolescent girls in schools struggle to buy sanitary towels and instead relies on socks, toilet paper or newspapers.

“We also know that the topic of menstruation can be taboo in many cultures and young girls can therefore experience shame and embarrassment and do not have resources to manage their menstruation hygienically,” said Teffo.

Teffo said even though they had volunteers in the foundation they also received a large number of pad donations from local businesses.
