The Polar Plunge saw swimmers jumping into pools, not only at the live event held at St Benedict’s College but also around the country in virtual events.

This year, as a massive cold front swept over Gauteng, 2016 Olympic swimmer Doug Erasmus joined in the fun.

Hospice opted for a hybrid event which saw participants take part at their homes or the live event.

Guide dog in training, Angus, was at the live event in Bedfordview but opted out of going for a swim when he felt the temperature of the water.

St Benedict’s allowed the organisation to use its outdoor pool for the live event.

The morning of the event was well attended and saw several participants join the first jump with Doug.

Donuts sponsored by Georges Bread & Co were on sale afterwards.

Hospice East Rand provides care for patients diagnosed with a life-limiting illness. This care is medical, psychosocial and spiritual.

Hospice also supports the patient’s family through their journey.
