Residents are warned by the City of Ekurhuleni of a scam involving driver’s and learner’s licences.

CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said the scam promises free licences if individuals register on a fraudulent website.
“It is circulating on various social media platforms through the publication of fake adverts to lure the unsuspecting public,” said Dlamini.
“Residents are urged not to respond to these false advertisements.”
He said the city’s process to apply for driver and learner’s licences has not changed.

To book for your learner’s licence:
• Visit www.online.natis.gov.za and register your profile.
• Make a booking at a Driving Licence Testing Centre (DLTC).
• Pay for your pre-booking at the DLTC where the booking was made.
• Payment must be made within 3 days from making the pre-booking.
• An eye test must be done on the day of the payment at the DLTC or at a recognised eye specialist where a certificate will be issued.
Dlamini said because the booking system is live dates and times at specific testing stations may not always be available.
He said at times a testing station may be fully booked.
“You can either wait until booking timeslots become available or try a different testing station.”
Once aspiring motorists have obtained their learner’s licence they can apply for their driver’s licence.
To do so visits your nearest DLTC:
• Applicants must provide a valid Identity Document (ID) and learner’s licence.
• They must provide the prescribed fee and two black and white ID photographs.
• At the DLTC applicants must complete a DL1 form available from the centre.
Using the K53 method, potential drivers will be required to pass a driving test that incorporates a yard test and a road test.
If they pass they will be issued a temporary driving licence.
This will be replaced with a permanent driving licence in six months.
Dlamini said the city reserved Wednesdays for pensioners to renew their driving licences.
“Pensioners can simply walk into any of Ekurhuleni’s DLTC without an online appointment and renew their licences,” said Dlamini.
