Media and residents desperate for clarity on Kempton power outages

Kempton Park ward councillors stated that “there are different stories about the Kempton Park power outage which is causing havoc”.

This is in response to the media and residents’ plea for feedback regarding the Kempton Park power outage.

“After load shedding yesterday, we lost one of our key substations. Teams worked throughout the night to investigate and resolve the issue,” ward councillors informed residents on Monday morning via automated responses.

Testing resumed this morning after loadshedding and CoE then identified further damages to the system from the tests on the affected 66kV infrastructure.

At 15h00 it was announced that Kempton Park was undergoing load shedding again which impacted repair work and testing.

Affected areas include Birchleigh, Glen Marais, Van Riebeeck Park, Terenure, Birch Acres, Aston Manor, Allen Grove, Bonaero Park and surrounding areas.

“Technicians are on site conducting isolations to open and inspect the affected infrastructure.”

According to automated messages from Kempton Park ward councillors, estimated restoration time is 22h00.

City of Ekurhuleni, on its social media platforms, did not provide an estimated restoration time.

Residents, frustrated with the Kempton Park power outage, gathered on P91 near McDonald’s this evening, expressing frustration with the power outage.
